 Thursday's practice
« Thread Started on Mar 8, 2007, 1:36pm »

-- Hasek will start Friday unless he has a setback in the morning skate.
-- Sammy is set to be in the lineup.
-- Matt Ellis is a dad, son Matthew Hayden.
-- Filppula, Franzen both didn't skate at practice, but both are fine, according to Babcock.
-- Langfeld didn't practice to go back to Grand Rapids and get his stuff.
-- Forward lines haven't been determined, but Sammy practiced with Datsyuk and Bertuzzi (subbing for Fil).

Todd skating with the top line is a very good sign. Do all NHL teams have their own jet? I wonder if the travel is made easier being on Wing 1 (whatever it is called).

Hey Bruce,

Who skated with Lang today? By the looks of things, Babcock is leaning towards Sammy - Dats - Flip? Does that mean the Mule gets put back with Lang and Calder? Too bad for Hudler, the little guy worked his butt off against Nashville and earned praise from Babcock, and we all know Bab's impression of him to start the season.

Bruce,
just wondering your thoughts on Bert, off the ice meshing with all the other guys?
and how is he progressing on the ice?

Thanks for all the great info!

I used to fly corporate aircraft and would often see the planes of various sports team sitting on the general aviation ramps of airports around the country.

A good number of the major sports teams have their own plane. Those that don’t usually contract with a charter company that specifically caters to transporting sports teams (Champion Air is one that immediately comes to mind).

The Wings' team plane (shared with the Tigers) is a DC-9 with an interior laid-out in a "corporate" or "businesss" configuration. It has some of the typical airline coach-type seats, but also what's called "club seating" where the seats are wider and opposing in some places with small tables in between where guys can play cards or whatever.

The original "Red Bird One" was a BAC jet based at Oakland-Pontiac Airport. Only the Wings used that one, I believe. I'm guessing it wasn't quite big enough to transport an entire baseball team--players, coaches, training staff, executive, team-salaried media, etc..

Here’s a pic of the current jet:

Tomas Holmstrom joked that he scores off tip-ins because linemates Pavel Datsyuk or Zetterberg keep passing the puck between each other.
