-- Schneider didn't practice and is hurt, but Babcock wouldn't say what. He did say that Schneider will probably play Saturday, but Lilja will (obviously) go if Schneid cannot. -- Team worked on efficiency and breakouts with Babcock often interrupting to express his displeasure. -- Zetterberg skated on his own for a third straight day. -- Kopecky is participating in drills.

They need to work on puck support on the PP. I've never seen a team be out-manned in the corner's on the PP like the Wings consistently are. The other forwards just stand around and watch Homer or Calder getting manhandled by two opposition players and then out the puck comes.

we had power plays? Seriously.. lately, the last thing this team needs to work on is the power play. We hardly get any. Im glad to see they are working on breakout strategys, and im glad babcock is voicing displeasure. It killed us against edmonton. Its been a major problem for the better part of 2 years.
Ive been saying it for a while now. I really dont care what this teams record is down the stretch. I dont care how many games they drop to st louis, cbj, anaheim or whoever. What i do care about, is seeing this team make improvements in certain areas. 1 being the PK, the other being breakout strategys. SOmetimes to take a step forward youhave to first take a small step backwards, which may cost you 1 or more games. In forcing guys to try something new, and different to them, its not always going to be pretty at first until they get used to it. Once they adjust it could be far better than the original system.
We had serious "momentum" going into the playoffs last year, unfortunately durring that stretch of 20 games without a loss in regulation, no significant adjustments were made. We enterred the playoffs playing the same sloppy hockey that we had been playing for months. Nothing wrong with a little humility down the stretch. 1st seed, 4th seed, flames, wild, sharks, ducks.. home ice, road, doesnt make a huge difference imo. What does make a difference is that we enter the playoffs with a solid team system, a solid breakout strategy, good penalty killing, and playing with intensity for a full 60 minutes. Not to mention being healthy. If all those cards dont fall into place, who we play, or where we are playing, isnt going to make a darn bit of difference.

The only thing I'd add to this is discipline. Babcock has to drive home the fact that his team takes far too many penalties considering they don't play a physical game. The Wings aren't taking boarding, charging or fighting majors... it's all hooking, holding and interference. That has to stop, those penalties are unnecessary and the result of lazy and/or sloppy play. And imo, a lack of discipline is a direct reflection on the coaching staff.
If Babcock doesn't get this turned around, I don't care who we play in the first round... it'll be nearly impossible to beat them when the Wings play short handed 1/4 to 1/3rd of the game.

I think that were all correct in stating that alot of penalties are lazy. The only thing I see that is going to correct things a bit will be when Z comes back we will be in oppositions end more due to the up tempo game and puck control that he brings thus creating more power[plays for us and less pk"s hopefully.

... this fix is easy. Take Lang off the power play.
