After the game, an angry Holland confronted NHL executive Frank Brown in the hallway outside the Red Wings locker room.
"You tell us to pussy-foot around the media," Holland yelled. "Give them some (expletive) suspensions."

I'm not surprised, assuming Detroit wins the series, Calgary can pretty much ruin our chances of winning the cup the way they play, imagine what they'll do if they're losing by 4 in an elimination game.

Hell yeah. 'Bout time someone from the management team stepped up and said something out loud.
Jarome Iginla calls it keeping their energy up. No, this is not energy, this is DIRTY play. All these penalties that the Wings go to the box for for "running" Kipper. You look at these plays, look at the Flames push the Wings onto Kipper and then complain about it.
Kind of boiled over? No Rhett Warrner, it didn't kind of boil over, it's characteristic of your team.

Iginla says "it happens" and "we're not going away". It's up to the wings to make them go away - preferably tomorrow night.
And good for Holland for having a little hissy fit.

I hope the team responds a bit better than the last time this sort of thing happened. We didn't score another goal after Ville ran Cujo in the waning moments of game 4. I remember Smith went on a tirade after that one. I believe it boiled down to "suspend Nieminen or we're steamrolling Kiprusoff on the opening shift of game 5".

So, if Iginla doesn't "like some of the whacks that were going on," why the f*%^ didn't he (as captain) stop them?

The blowup happened in the hallway between the Wings locker room and the coaches offices. The only two media members who were there were myself and John Hetzler (who works with me at my paper), making our way back to the press box. As Red Wings fans, let me tell you, you would have been proud of Holland. He was hot. And Frank Brown (NHL VP) handled it very well. I think the message Holland was getting across was that the Red Wings are a good company team, that they don't go to the media to try to make changes ... but that the league needs to hold up its end. It was like an analogy to the game itself ... if the officials take care of the calls, then the players don't have to get rough. There were no decisions made at that point. Brown told Holland to wait and see what happens and Holland said something better happen. Again, as Red Wings fans, if you weren't a Ken Holland fan before this, you should be now.
