Quote:| The Red Wings could lose the rights to 10 prospects on Friday: Christofer Lofberg, Mattias Ritola, Johan Ryno, Jeff May, Juho Mielonen, Bretton Stamler, Andreas Sundin, Stefan Blom, Tomas Kollar and Mikael Johansson. |
|
So who gets signed by Thursday night and who doesn't? Take your guesses!
I think Johan Ryno is a lock to be signed. I also have a hunch that Jeff May gets a contract (maybe it's just because I want them to sign him!). The rest I think get passed over. I don't really see more than two contracts getting handed out (Ryno + one of May or Stamler).
Also, since it looks like Scott Parse isn't going to be signed by LA (they get till Aug. 15th I think) do you think Holland might be interested in him?

Carpe Diem!! Quote:| Single worst trade in the History of the NHL.. Some day im gonna have to explain to my kids as to why the Wings would trade away a future allstar like Jason Williams for a rental. The Forsberg and Thornton trades look like an even swap compared to this disaster. |

1. Ryno--I think this one is a no-brainer. However he will stay in Europe. This guy is still VERY early in his development..........trust me. 2. May--Big guy, mean streak......we need more of that in our system on the blue line 3. Ritola--the Wings will take a chance on this guy just because Hakan sees something special in him.......we all know that Hakan is God around these parts
Just a hunch I have on what Kenny will do.....

Rather than Ritola, I'd try out Lofberg. Just because of his physical tools. For some odd reason he can't catch a break over in Sweden tho... Wonder if he could be enticed over like Ericsson (who was being yanked around in the SEL as well), who came out of nowhere and established himself as a guy with a probably NHL future. Because he had the physical tools.

Lofberg has been hampered with injuries and family problems. He has been in no way yanked around the SEL. If I am not mistaken, he has a spot with DIF but the coach gave him full responsibility over his own practice schedule and such. Basically, Lofberg decided when he wanted to show up and when he didnt. When I was at Globen, it seemed as if most of the fans just assumed he was injured and said that the papers werent reporting any mis-treatment by the team at all. This guy did intrigue me also. Bug guy, speed, skill.....sounds like one of our old Russian friends now doesnt it?

In his Junior career, there were a couple occasions where he was inexplicably left off of nat'l rosters and such. At least that's what I've read in a couple articles here and there. It could be he's a headcase, you never know, but it could be he's become disillusioned with the process?

Right, now I remember what you're talking about. I dont know. Obviously thats one of those kinda things that you would only know if you're close to the team or Lofberg himself. Personally, I would take the chance and sign this guy just based on potential alone but I really dont think it will happen IMO. Based on the past alone, the Red Wings dont make a habit of just handing out contracts to prospects. They really have to earn their papers.
However; Mursak, Helm and Emmerton all received contracts this year. I know that Lofbergs season was a FAR cry from theirs, but does anyone think that the Red Wings are changing their prospects signing outlook? I mean it makes complete sense why they signed these guys but does anyone think the Wings will start signing more of their draft picks on a regular basis in the 'new' NHL and the cap era?

The wings will definately sign Ryno. They will like sign Ritola. May could sign as could Stamler. But all 4 will not sign. I would not be entirely surprised if the wings cut both Stamler and May.

In an earlier article here at RWC, I think Hakan was quoted as telling Lofberg that even if he's not signed, to keep working, because the wings will keep an eye on him and will sign him later if he can put all of the family troubles behind him and start moving forward again.
My predictions:
Ryno, Ritola

I think Parse would be a good addition. He was very consitent with the Griffins. He will see alot of time in the AHL.
