I haven't seen any actions yet from Ken Holland that would suggest he'd ever consider giving Howard a roster spot unless he were absolutely forced by injuries. That bothers me. So would you rather see him out there playing the point on the powerplay? Only if it means he's taking Williams spot.

We can only hope Holland's statements are legit this time. This offseason is do or die time in regards to his 1/2 step back statement. This offseason we'll have enough contracts coming off the books to seriously evaluate and move down one path or the other. If we continue moving forward without taking the 1/2 step back then we can forget about howard ever seeing the ice at the joe any time soon. If that's the case I'd start putting feelers out and judging his trade value. The same pretty much goes with any other FA.
IMO next year I use an ozzie/howard tandem. Get howard the experience and keep ozzie's experience. Hell, having a rookie in net doesn't mean that we're not a cup contender. If Holland's too scared of the future then you have to question if he's the right person for the job in the capped era. We can't live on the prayers of players coming cheap and contributing like they have forever. If he's finally looking at a change then I hope and pray he wades into it this offseason so we don't have to take the plunge in the deep end next offseason.

LOL Drew is having one helluva season for Manitoba isn't he? 6th overall in the AHL in Save% and GAA. Not bad for a castoff huh? I'm happy for him. Yeah, I've been trying to keep tabs on him. I remember getting laughed at when I said Joey Mac was an NHL goalie. Not that Joey's a starter or anything, but here he is. I think Drew will get a shot in the NHL. Goalies take a while to develop. Drew probably needs at least one more season as AHL starter. I'm still waiting for retractions from all of those that said it was the right move to get rid of Drew and keep Liv too.

The problem I'm foreseeing is, everything about the last 3 playoffs suggested that the Wings needed to make some major changes, and they mostly just tinkered. They don't get credit for major changes because Yzerman retired and Shanny refused their offer. It's been very obvious that they need to bring in players that are more capable of dump and chase hockey - that's what you have to play in the playoffs. So if they get knocked out early again, what will be the excuse this year? Pavel was hurt, so the "chemistry" he had with Shanny didn't have a chance to work. Hot goalie, nothing you can do. Hey, that team that beat us went to the finals, so we're like the 3rd best team in the NHL! Etc. Etc. Etc. History has proven that Holland is not willing to take a half step back, no matter how many steps forward it would buy him in the future, and no matter how much bigger the step back would be if he waits too long.
