What about Brad Winchester? I wouldnt mind him getting a camp invite.. Two years ago in the playoffs, it seemed like Winchester was everywhere on the ice. He wasn't scoring much, but he was a beast on the forecheck and down low. I'd like to see the Wings fourth line take a turn in that direction, but I don't see it happening.

The Wings have GOT to sign Lundmark, this guy is fast and has all the tools to be a 50 goal scorer. Oh... wait... it's not 2001 anymore? Nevermind.

Will Samuelsson miss nearly half the season? Will Kronwall miss another season? Will D&Z both be AWOL until January? Maybe not, but is he your answer for spreading out the offense? Do teams really worry about him? No. He's mini-Shanahan.....streaky. He just doesn't produce as much when he's hot. The guy had a career season in 2005-06, do you honestly expect him to get better and put up 35+ goals even if healthy? Our biggest offensive losses will likely be Schneider and Lang. Bringing in UFA to make up for the loss of Schneider is a given, imo. But you don't think Flip/Hudler can make up for the loss of Lang? Hudler possibly, but not unless he's on Pavel's wing. He's not good enough to carry the 2nd line without a tpo-tier player. Filppula.....he's gotta prove to me that he's developed some touch and instincts in the offensive zone. For the minutes he got last season, and some of the premium time on the 1st line with Datsyuk, his production was underwhelming. He's gotta put up a 20-20 or 15-30 season before I'm ready to bet the season on him being able to carry a line. Meanwhile, the biggest thing we lose with Bertuzzi is that size of his. He didn't contribute much offensively, but at times he came through with a "big man's game." Adding a guy like Hall would give us that type of game for the whole season and make us more difficult to play against. I hate Bertuzzi. I hope we don't resign him. The money he'll get plus the draft pick we'll lose just isn't worth it. As for Hall, sure I'd take a flyer on him but not at the expense of going after a proven scorer for the top 6. I doubt a top 6 going into next season of this will go the distance: Hudler/Filppula - Datsyuk - Grigorenko? Holmstrom - Zetterberg - Samuelsson/Hall That's assuming you split up ZDH. Keep them together and it gets even more frightening: Zetterberg - Datsyuk - Holmstrom Hudler/Samuelsson - Filppula - Grigorenko/Hall Yikes.....

The guy had a career season in 2005-06, do you honestly expect him to get better and put up 35+ goals even if healthy? No, he's my answer to make up for a drop off in scoring from Cleary. I expect samuelsson to come back and put up 20-25 goals if he's healthy, allowing cleary to drop back down to the a more realistic 10-12. In the end, we end up with a push on the team goal totals. And that's where I'd stick Hudler. And if he's not used on a scoring line, what's the point of having him at all? He's not a checking line player, but he could be useful next to D or Z. I'd have Flip centering the third line, giving us D-Z-Glip-Draper up the middle. I liked the idea of getting what Bertuzzi could bring but I'm not sure I'm keen on bringing him back, either, unless it's dirt cheap. The thing is, though, that he was brought in to score goals for us and it just never really happened. So replacing him isn't that big of a deal on the score sheet. The guys who scored most of our goals last season are still here, and they were successful doing it in the playoffs. Now if we signed a guy like Smyth, I don't have a problem. but what about between a guy like Sykora and Hall? Do we benefit more from Sykora's goal scoring or from Hall's physical play? If we signed Hall, I'd go with something like: Hudler-Datsyuk-Franzen Samuelsson-Z-Homer Grigorenko-Flip-Hall Cleary-Draper-Maltby/Kopecky Is it leaning heavily on a kid to produce? Yeah, but we also know exactly what to expect from most of the others. At the very least they will be defensively responsible and physical, two things that typically do well in the playoffs. And tell me that doesn't look like a "Babcock" team.
