McBride is only 24 (3.60 ERA) and is a left-handed reliever with options to send to the minors. He is very effective against left-handed batters (.160 BA). Ledezma (4.79 ERA) is 26 with no more options to be sent to the minors. I think this is a good trade for the Tigers McBride Profile; atlanta.braves.mlb.com/team/player.jsp?player_id=434680

I think the Tigers were disappointed with Ledezma. They originally projected him to be a starter and it didn't work out. That's not the reason they traded him, but I think they were frustrated that he never reached the ceiling they thought he could. McBride is like a poor man's Jaime Walker but with less upside. He's another guy that didn't reach his expected potential. This is a pretty minor trade. Yeah, they can send McBride down and that helps the logjam, but it also sends a message to the bullpen: your job is not secure; start performing, or else.

I don't know about that. Ledezma was given opportunities to start and, overall, they didn't go well. He had basically tried as a starter and failed. I'm not saying he will never be a starter again, but he certainly hasn't shown anything this season that indicates he can step into a rotation and play well.

this trade was pretty pointless from both sides. Even the timing sucks, the Tigers are about to be in Atl...hould McBride just chill in the visitors clubhouse for a while until his teammates arrive?

Pretty much, yeah lol, the Tigers are off tomorrow, so they wouldn't need him until Friday anyway. But I think McBride is getting sent down right away since Kenny is coming off the DL Friday.

They still need help in the pen. There was talk about getting Gagne from Texas. that guy was money before the injuries. But Tommy John surgery, which I believe is what he had, takes a while to heal but the pitchers come back god as new.

People are going bats over Rodney's slow start but an even bigger question mark like Gagne is an answer?
This move was made purely to buy time and ease upcoming roster congestion. So far injuries have been compounded by rough starts to make it look pretty ugly. But as our regulars come back, and some other guys are forced into the pen (and maybe someone like DLC emerges), they'll round into form.
A move might be made. but I doubt there will be anyone on the market, for a price we can stomach, who will be an upgrade over what we have. It's a long season and things like this need to be allowed to play out. we have the arms to make it, we just have to be patient.
