He got off to a great start last year before the injury.....I think he had an ERA under 3 before the game he pitched where he had to be pulled because of the elbow. But since he's come back his velocity has nosedived. I just hope it's a decent prospect.

MLB has a rule about trading players within a certain amount of time after they're drafted.
Bonderman was the "player to be named later" in the Weaver deal, because it was too soon after the A's drafted him to announce it officially. The teams had agreed that he was the player, but they had to wait X amount of time to make it official per some stupid MLB rule.
I'm not saying they'll get that type of quality return, but players to be named later are not like Future Considerations in the NHL - depending on the deal, it can still be a good prospect.
If you look at the foxsports Ken Rosenthal article, I'm amazed at how many complete idiots bothered to post hate mail about Rosenthal "not doing his job" or "reporting half a story". Eventually the player to be named later will probably leak out, as it did with Bondo. But man, people are stupid.

When Rosenthal initially posted he didn't have anything going Detroit's way. People still jumped the gun and starting pitching a fit for no reason, though.
players also can't be dealt from the DL and I guess there's been talk that the PTBNL could be Looper. Personally, I'm betting it's picks, too but you never know.

....but not a particularly good one.....this from the freep: The Tigers didn't want a major leaguer for Maroth, since they needed his roster spot for Rogers. The Tigers have until Sept. 15 to make a selection from a list of three players. "We will get a player who we consider a prospect from a list of names we can choose from," Dombrowski said. "(He is) not going to be a premier prospect, but he'll be a guy who will have a chance to pitch or play in the big leagues. But it's not going to be one of their blue-chip-type guys."

And with three months to do a lot of scouting on these guys(as opposed to a few days at best like you usually have in a trade), we can be sure we're getting the best of the options we have.
